Chiefly correspondence and business and land papers, many of which concern family properties, including Gadsden plantation on Gill's Creek and Millwood plantation tracts on north side of Garner's Ferry Road in Richland County near Columbia, S.C. Correspondence, chiefly concerning personal and family news, re several generations of the Spigener family, including Emma S. Spigener, Charles Malcolm Spigener, Margaret McDonald Jones Spigener, and others; also includes yearbooks, some with annotations, of Margaret Bruce Spigener from Winthrop College (1940, 1941, 1943); and from Hammond Academy (1973) [yearbooks at Annex]. Ernest McPherson Lander, Jr. was born December 16, 1915 in Calhoun Falls, SC. Educated in local schools, he received an A.B. degree from Wofford College in 1937, an M.A. from the University of North Carolina in 1939, and a Ph. D., also from UNC, in 1950. From 1937 to 1940, Lander was a teacher and coach at various high schools.
